Hover here for answer...A radiator. The original old-style Beetles were cooled solely by air, and did not require a liquid coolant. The first generation of Beetles to incorporate a radiator was the New Beetle, circa 1998.

What year was the first Beetle prototype made, and who designed it?

Hover here for answer...The first Beetle prototype was introduced in 1934. It was designed by Ferdinand Porsche who went on to create an array of other vehicles including the Mercedes-Benz SS/SSK and the first of many Porsche automobiles. Over 21 million original Beetles were produced from 1938 until 2003, making it the longest running and most-manufactured automobile of a single design platform in all history.
