Beetle Convertible to debut

Beetle Convertible to debut

Mark your calendars in November! Volkswagen has confirmed that the 2013 VW Beetle Convertible will be making its debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show in just a few months.

They are keeping their cards close to the vest on this one, so sadly we don't have a pre-image of this anxiously-awaited Beetle, but they have revealed that it will be offered with three different engines, including the 2.0 Liter TDI diesel engine that seems to be growing in popularity in the US. Unfortunately, they also mentioned there will be no electric Beetle for this year, despite many fans hoping it would be on the menu.

The E-Bugster, VW's electric Beetle concept, turned heads in January at the Detroit show and later in the year at the Beijing Show. The Bugster has a chopped windshield, flared fenders and LED lights in the front fenders. Is this the same design we'll see in November for the regular Beetle Convertible? VW is keeping tight lips, so we are not sure how many of these design cues made it into production on the gas convertible.

Volkswagen has said in a press release that the 2013 Beetle Convertible will be available with a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the diesel engine. It also said fuel-economy should come in at 41 mpg on the highway for the manual-transmission model.
